Webequie First Nation Chief Re-Elected

WEBEQUIE FIRST NATION, ON, Jan. 31 /CNW/ - Cornelius Wabasse has been re-elected for his second term as Chief with an overwhelming majority support from the membership.

During his campaign, Chief Wabasse stressed the important issues that lay before his community including protecting their traditional interests in the Ring of Fire development, maximizing economic development opportunities, and collaborating with other impacted First Nations.

"We are reaching a critical stage in both the development of our community as well as the development of the Ring of Fire" stated Chief Wabasse.

"It is a balancing act between dealing with historical issues and planning for future opportunities, however, I do look forward with working with both levels of government and industry on a progressive agenda." Wabasse added.

Mr. Gary Marriott: Sure. Gary Marriott, Timmins Chamber of Commerce president.
I’d like to welcome each of you to Timmins and express our appreciation to the standing committee for holding a public input session in Timmins. We welcome the opportunity to provide input into the budget-setting process.
It is my intent to provide you with the northeastern Ontario perspective by sharing some of the economic challenges, some unique and some not so unique, facing the business community in our region.
As of today, the Timmins Chamber of Commerce represents more than 810 business members from Timmins. Our organization has been around since 1949, and we take our role as the voice of business very seriously.

THUNDER BAY – The news that there are issues over development brewing in the Ring of Fire should not come as a surprise to anyone who has followed the issue closely. Both the Matawa First Nations and the Nishanawbe Aski Nation have been sounding the alarm bell for months. It appears a wake-up call that the McGuinty government has simply hit the snooze button and rolled back to nap mode over.
Perhaps one of the realities are that politically, the McGuinty government has made the determination that there are more votes in ridings that may matter more to them than in the far north, as Toronto often sees our region?
The First Nations are likely more aware of the opportunities that the chromite in their traditional territory can represent, and realize that the potential bounty if allowed to be squandered will leave them ever further behind in a society that already has plenty of hurdles before their people.
Some of what appears to be happening, and likely missed by some is the degree of communications and new technology is allowing First Nations to share information with each other from across the region, the country and the world. That means instead of operating in a communications blackout that First Nations are aware of far more today than ever before.
In parts of Alberta, where oil and natural gas was discovered on First Nations Reserves, the bounty of money has helped to make the lives of the people much better. However there have also been lessons to learn there as well. It is likely that those lessons are being shared, and that First Nations in the development zone are realizing that the resources are the keys to their futures.
That said, it is critical for First Nations, and for the McGuinty Government to work toward the future.
If the McGuinty Government is serious, then the time for the delightful enthusiasm of Minister Micheal Gravelle has to kick it up at least a notch or two. While it is hard to dislike that Minister Gravelle is always upbeat and excited to share the good news, the reality is that the decisions made right now by his department are likely to set the course for the next decade of progress on the Ring of Fire.
Gravelle’s biggest issue is likely that increasingly his boss, Premier Dalton McGuinty has, by his actions not meeting the lofty rhetoric of his words, has made the Minister’s task a difficult and daunting task.
Now is the time when the people of Thunder Bay Superior North get to see if Minister Gravelle’s endless enthusiasm can be matched by solid action and determination to fight for our region’s future.
Coming in an election year, politics will likely play a role. Gravelle will have to decide if the Premier’s coat-tails are worth riding, or if he wants to have a political legacy that will last longer than his term in office.
Interesting times? Absolutely.

NORONT WILL CONTINUE EXPLORATION DESPITE WORK STOPPAGE NOTICE
TORONTO, Jan. 27 /CNW/ - Noront Resources Ltd. ("Noront" or the "Company") (TSX Venture: NOT) advises that it has received a notice on January 25, 2010 from the Marten Falls First Nation ("Marten Falls") seeking the immediate termination of all exploration activity by all companies currently operating in the Ring of Fire, James Bay Lowlands, Ontario.

The requested work stoppage apparently results from a dispute between Marten Falls and KWG/Fancamp on the consultation process required prior to the construction of their new exploration camp located on Koper Lake. Noront has no relationship with KWG/Fancamp or the new camp.
To date there have been no protests interfering with Noront's exploration activities. Noront has 50 people currently working in our Esker Camp, 20 of whom are self identified members of First Nation communities from Northern Ontario. We intend to continue with our activities and providing employment for our staff and contractors.

The Ontario government has been informed of our decision to continue work on site. In addition, Noront has offered to participate in negotiations with any combination of Government, Marten Falls and Industry in discussions that would help resolve this dispute.

Marten Falls planning Ring of Fire blockade

Marten Falls First Nation is planning another blockade in the Ring of Fire over concerns of a work camp set up near the community.

Chief Eli Moonias said protestors from his community will likely have the blockade set up within a week. The Ring of Fire is a chromite deposit in the James Bay lowlands.

“This is our territory,” Moonias said. “If you want to set up a camp there you have to come and see us.”
Moonias said his community is concerned about a 40-man camp built on muskeg along Koper Lake and being used by mining companies KWG Resources Inc. and Fancamp Exploration Ltd.

Webequie Logistics, a company providing on the ground support for mining exploration companies working in the Ring of Fire area, built the camp. The company isn't owned by Webequie First Nation, but is based out of Thunder Bay and owned by Clayton Downton and Sam Lapagge.

“Last fall they built a new camp by the lake … right on top of the water,” he said.

China Investment Corp (CIC), the country's 300 billion U.S. dollars sovereign wealth fund, announced Friday it had opened its first foreign representative office in Toronto.

Felix Chee was named chief representative officer in Toronto. The 63-year-old Chee was once CIC's chief investment officer (CIO), and before that he served as CIO of the Canadian company, Manulife Financial.
The Toronto office will seek to enhance CIC's cooperation with local companies and promote its overall investment business in Canada, according to its statement.

Last year, CIC opened a wholly owned unit in Hong Kong.

CIC, which also holds large stakes in China's major state-controlled banks, added 58 billion U.S. dollars to its overseas holdings in 2009, mainly in publicly traded stocks and bonds.
The fund was set up in 2007 with a mandate to earn a higher return for the government.

Nice email from KWG

I received a very nice email from KWG complementing Babjak & I on the blog. They did however, also send along the NR about asking the FN leaders to sit on the Board of Canada Chrome. They suggest that this is also big news. They are right. This is very good news. It pushes the FN community to either get in the big tent or mind the 'fire' outside. Thursday, January 20th, 2011 - 13:13:41 The Municipality of Wawa has written to Northern Development, Mines and Forestry Minister, the Honourable Michael Gravelle, to elicit support for the community to become a hub for the “Ring of Fire”. A letter sent to the Minister on January 17, 2011 states in part that Wawa boasts some very good assets that could be used for the success of the “Ring of Fire”. Those assets include: the developed Michipicoten Harbour which has already attracted private sector funds; a significant brownfield site for any potential processing facility; First Nation and municipal ownership of the rail bed from Hawk Junction to the Michipicoten Harbour; and access to the Algoma Central Railway at Hawk Junction which provides a connection to the Canadian National Railway. The “Ring of Fire” is the name that has been given to a major mining discovery in Northern Ontario, 500 kilometers northeast of Thunder Bay that holds massive deposits of copper sulfide, diamonds, nickel, copper, platinum, palladium and perhaps the world’s largest deposit of chromite. Reports indicate that six communities are in line to host the necessary processing facilities for the deposit. Greenstone, Thunder Bay, Timmins, Sault Ste Marie and Sudbury have already been mentioned as potential sites while the sixth site is said to be a community along the north shore of Lake Superior that already has a natural harbour. Mayor Linda Nowicki stated; “Our letter to Minister Gravelle in part stated that while we all recognize the horrendous downturn in the economy in the Superior East Region for the past many years, we also see the potential of revitalizing that same economy through the opportunities that the “Ring of Fire” development could bring. To that end, I have asked Minister Gravelle to give serious consideration to including Wawa as the unnamed sixth community and have further asked that he assign staff from either Sault Ste Marie or Thunder Bay to work with our region to make the development a reality.” Comments to rofmonitor@gmail.com

It Has Started

When I think of Noront. I think of the words , "flying under the radar."
 Our stock price is where it's at because we are flying under the radar. Wes Hanson says, "we are flying under the radar."

Well you can imagine after hearing these words several times from Noront how sensitive I am to those words.
I hear it ringing in my ears and I feel it right down to my toes.  I hope to one day fly above the radar so I can make some money.

I bring this up because I have just seen these words again today.....but uttered by someone else....other than Noront.

I like the drawing shown http:/norontresources.com/find/id/55/Qp. I can only imagine what AT12 holds. The BOD seems confident that AT12 will be bigger than eagles nest. The purple feeder zone is larger on the drawing and the stuff below is richer ie Black Thor , Black Creek, Big Daddy than Noront's Blackstone, Blackbird.

Hopefully the richer chromite generates a richer nickel-copper feeder. The purple size on the map showing the feeder before you hit the chromite is certainly visually larger than eagles nest.

CIC to open Toronto office, geared towards Canada's natural resources

China Investment Corporation or CIC, the country's sovereign wealth fund, reportedly plans to open a Toronto office.

According to newswires, CIC with US$300 billion under management, plans to announce the new representative office on Friday.

Fund managers say the reason for choosing Toronto may be twofold -- first for potential investments geared towards Canada's natural resources, while second might be for tax benefits.

The extension to Toronto comes as CIC is trying to expand its business operations internationally and to be taken seriously as a global investment group.

It will be CIC's second office outside mainland China, after opening a Hong Kong office last year.
A CIC spokesperson declined to comment.

I was happy to read today that the Thunder Bay Superior North Liberals have endorsed Michael Gravelle as their candidate for the 2011 Provincial Election. I like what this man has done so far for pushing for needed infrastructure.

Big Daddy news from KWG.... looking good

BIG DADDY DRILLING BEGUN, PASSES TEST FOR LUMP ORE

MONTREAL, Jan. 19 /CNW/ - KWG Resources Inc. (TSXV: KWG) announces that the company's core-drilling campaign on the Big Daddy chromite deposit is underway. The planned program is to drill twelve holes that will test the continuity of the chromite deposit at depths of 450 and 600 metres with intercepts spaced 150 metres apart horizontally. Visual geological analysis will be reported during the course of the program as assay results will not be available until after completion of the campaign of some 8,640 metres of drilling.

The Company has also received the first of the test results from Xstrata Process Support's research facilities at Falconbridge, Ontario, which has completed the first of many tests needed to evaluate the marketability of chromite ore from the Big Daddy deposit in the Ring of Fire.

Xstrata's report concludes that: "The Big Daddy ore is competent, and provided mining and primary crushing is competently performed, the yield of saleable ore as direct shipping lumpy ore approaches 100%. Marketing plans can proceed on the basis of a high yield of direct shipping grade lumpy chromite ore. Further metallurgical test work and project planning can proceed without delay."

 The use of the term "ore" in this context is not meant to imply economic viability of the project, by KWG.

Dalton McGuinty wants you to know he’s proud of his record.
Proud enough that the Ontario Premier talked for 25 straight minutes about it, accompanied by a slide show, as he paid visits to Kitchener and Hamilton last week. And proud enough that he’ll give that same presentation a whole bunch more places during his pre-election tour.

But Mr. McGuinty also needs to explain why those eight years haven’t been enough for him. And at this point, that message is mostly absent.
The underlying theme of the Premier’s recent communications is that the province has come too far – on health care, on education, on economic renewal – to risk turning back the clock with Tim Hudak’s Progressive Conservatives. It’s an argument commonly made by governments around this stage of their existence, and it plays well within their own ranks. But as the Conservatives discovered in 2003, when Mr. McGuinty’s Liberals swept them from office, it can very easily backfire.

Unless voters are especially fond of the status quo, or scared of the alternative, the stay-the-course argument makes long-serving governments look tired and out of gas. And that’s very much the case Mr. Hudak’s Tories plan to make about Mr. McGuinty – that he’s yesterday’s man, ill suited to the new challenges of the postrecession era.

How to avoid that tag is weighing on Liberal minds. And it’s the cause of some debate in the party’s senior ranks.
As much as it would go against the Premier’s image as an incrementalist, some Liberals are trying to convince others that now is the time to surprise voters with an election-defining platform plank that would help the government capitalize on any desire for change instead of falling prey to it.
Few of those ideas have yet been fully formed. And each of them – from some new way of making postsecondary tuition more affordable, to replacing the current welfare system with a guaranteed annual income supplement, to finally merging Catholic schools into a single public education system – would carry all sorts of risk.

The strategic argument, from the advocates of the big-idea approach, is that the greatest risk of all is to appear complacent. But that warning seems likely to fall on deaf ears. Mr. McGuinty’s brand is stability, and there’s a reluctance to blow it up. Many Liberals are optimistic that the economy is turning the corner, the public mood is improving, and once voters think seriously about their choice they’ll decide Mr. Hudak isn’t ready for prime time.
If that mentality holds, any new policies will fit into more familiar themes – a push to improve boys’ literacy, for instance – while the underlying message will be that the Premier needs one more term to finish the job on works-in-progress such as phasing out coal-fired power, developing the northern “Ring of Fire” and rolling out full-day kindergarten.

But one way or another, Mr. McGuinty must convincingly address the obvious overriding question: Why exactly does he want to be Premier?

The simple answer, to him and his loyalists, is that he’s the best person for the job. But the rest of the province will probably want a little more than that.
 That’s all well and good, to a point. Mr. McGuinty’s Liberals believe they’ve done a poor job of talking about their achievements and the progress the province has made under their watch. Since next fall’s campaign will largely be a referendum on Mr. McGuinty’s eight years in office, they need to get their side of the story out.

I wanted to take this opportunity to review the details of a phone call I place today to one of the ROF IR departments. I took some notes and have checked some of the facts out to verify the tone of the remarks I received before I would post them.

The discussion reminded me of an Ali fight, float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. We’d drift off on a tangent and we kept coming back to Cliffs and the Chinese.

Let me lay out some published facts.

CLEVELAND, Dec. 1, 2010 /CNW/ – Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. (NYSE: CLF) (Paris: CLF) today announced Dave Anthony will join the organization as vice president, senior project director, of Cliffs' Canadian chromite operations, effective January 2011. In this position, Mr. Anthony will lead the technical development of Cliffs' chromite deposits in Northern Ontario, Canada, overseeing project scope, execution plans, schedules and budgets to successfully design, procure, construct and begin production. He will report to William Boor, senior vice president, president - Ferroalloys.　
Earlier this year, Cliffs purchased two large chromite deposits and the controlling interest in a third deposit in the Ring of Fire area of Northern Ontario. Cliffs subsequently announced its intent to develop the mining operation in the Ring of Fire and a ferrochrome processing operation at a site to be determined in Ontario. Prefeasibility studies are underway, with projected start-up in 2015.Mr. Anthony has more than 30 years of engineering and environmental experience in the mining industry. Most recently, he worked with Barrick Gold Corp. as chief operating officer, responsible for African Barrick Gold (ABG) Mines & Capital Projects. He also has held general management positions with Barrick's gold and copper operations in Tanzania, directing the design, commissioning and operating of greenfield projects. Mr. Anthony also completed designs for mining companies across the globe while a senior metallurgist for SNC-Lavalin Engineers & Constructors LTD, a leading Toronto-based engineering and construction group. In addition, Mr. Anthony held engineering and environmental roles with major Canadian-based mining operators for more than 20 years.My contact stressed the change in the development life cycle. The move to prefeasibility is noteworthy in his opinion. It is also important to note that CLF will not be able to ‘outspend’ the minority partners on anything not related to the prefeasibility. I noted that if there is a 100 year supply in the ROF already, why spend any more trying to find another 50 year supply.

We then talked about the approval process and why the First Nations community is once again cranking up the rhetoric. They will be included in the planning process and they will get jobs and an equity position somewhere in the development of the project(s).

The other key point of any ROF discussion is of course political. The ‘Come to Jesus’ meeting held between the Province and the big three (CLF, NOT & KWG) also included a whole slew of bureaucrats. The bureaucrats were given their marching orders.... make it happen.

Lots of jockeying for position going on these days round the ROF. There has been more news on the political front than there has been on the corporate front. It sure looks like people are holding their cards close to their vests hoping for the government to make the first move by tipping their hand. Would you show your cards with a 'full house' when you think Dalton and the gang will raise the pot by chipping in for the railroad to service these grossly underserved communities.

Looking much like Al Gore in “An Inconvenient Truth,” McGuinty stood in front of a giant screen Wednesday to make an elaborate, campaign-style pitch to a Kitchener business crowd.

But unlike the former U.S. vice-president, the premier used his slide show to paint a rosy picture of Ontario’s future under Liberal rule as photos and graphics flashed up on the screen behind him, including a picture of the youthful, long-haired McGuinty boating on Lac St. Pierre in 1973.

“It was a constant battle with my parents though, I can tell you that much,” he said later of his long hair.
McGuinty touted his government’s policies — from full-day kindergarten to green energy _during the 28-minute speech, as well as plans to develop clean-water technology and the Ring of Fire chromite deposit in the north.

FNC up on High Volume. Cormark -Noront ties?

Fnc has many shares traded today approx. 6 million. Currently FNC is up 7 cents.

Time and  sales for FNC shows a very interesting very large single trade in the 4million range.

Buyer Cormark; seller was BMO.
Cormark?? Hum, why is that setting off fireworks in my head.

Because of the name Vishal Gupta.
 Don't forget he worked at Noront as a Geologist before coming to Cormark.
Don't forget Nov.12, 2010 Fancamp started drilling C2, C1.
C1 is the more interesting one. 120meters south of the Noront Border.

There are other speculations floating around as to why FNC is up but the fact that Cormark did such a single trade today is making me lean towards a C1- reason.

NORONT to Use DIAGNOS Advanced Detection System (CARDS) at McFaulds Lake Project

The biggest economic driver is seen in this picture below. If it doesn't come out on this post it's a picture of an aboriginal child with his back turned.

It's not about pinching hydro pennies and squeezing out that last nickel of profit.

It's hard to mine when there is a blockade going on.

Noront has been very smart in spite of what many think here. This picture below is your driver . Your most important consideration. To not consider to the voices of the people who RESIDE near these deposits is a BIG mistake.

Seems like a big war brewing about the location of the smelter (s). Seems everybody wants it. One day the world will wake up and the desire for our Noront shares will be equally heated. In this article at the bottom it mentions :
