INVENTOR'S HOMESTEAD ON THE MARKET SOON

Well did my little $4.3M skill testing question get your brain working yesterday? Imagine, two pages of ‘rules’ attracting a cool $4.3M bid at an auction in late 2010.

Here’s a little hint as to the identity of the man who single handedly changed the landscape of America. Here's his picture.

I guess the ball and the two baskets are a giveaway.

Here' s the auction of the two famous pages. That's Curly Neal to the left of the auction items

My sources in the Nations Capital inform me that the Homestead of Dr. James Naismith is to be offered on the real estate market in Almonte Ontario. What might it fetch if there is proper attention given to marketing it south of the 49th parallel? I could see the building being bought & moved, unless their are restrictions on the title.

Homestead may include 50+ acres

Back in the late 1960's my brother had the opportunity to visit Lake Havasu City on the Arizona Nevada border. Here's a clip out of their site about their purchase of the London Bridge.

"In 1967, the Common Council of the City of London placed the bridge on the market and began to look for potential buyers. On 18 April 1968, Rennie's bridge was sold to the American entrepreneur Robert P. McCulloch of McCulloch Oil for $2,460,000. When casting his bid for the bridge, McCulloch doubled the estimated cost of dismantling the structure, which was $1.2 million, bringing the price to $2.4 million. He then added on $60,000, a thousand dollars for each year of his age at the time he estimated the bridge would be raised in Arizona. His gesture earned him the winning bid.

As the bridge was taken apart, each piece was numbered to aid re-assembly. The bridge was reconstructed in Lake Havasu City, and re-dedicated on 10 October 1971. The reconstruction of Rennie's London Bridge spans the Bridgewater Channel canal that leads from Lake Havasu to Thomson Bay. Rennie's London Bridge has become Arizona's second-biggest tourist attraction, after the Grand Canyon."

Clearly, where there is a will, there is a way. I can see an alumni of one of the big US Universities buying the building to be used as a residence for their Director of Basketball. Don't laugh, I'm not that far off. I'd price the building, as is where is, for $5,000,000 and look for sealed offers!
